Some people love a big wallet. They love the feel of a thick, burly hunk of leather in there hand and they can't get enough. This is something I can relate to, but have come to the conclusion that if it can be thinner, it should be. Most of my wallets offered nowadays are considerably thinner than their counterparts of years past. This is due to my ongoing search for strong, thin (but not too thin) leathers which has culminated in a relative standard of thinness that I now take for granted. This is all well and good for those who like to keep their wallets in their back pockets, and does them a service. But what about those who want to keep their wallets in the front pocket? Well, we have some options.
I am now offering three different minimal card wallets for those who like to keep it extra simple. These also work great as a "second wallet" to throw in your pocket for a night out with just a few cards and a folded wad of cash. The perfect antidote to "thick wallet-itis."
First up is the most simple, the card sleeve. Available in two leathers that i use often. Horween Chromexcel, which is a leather that is stuffed with waxes and oils in such a way that it really has a waxy feel and lustrous sheen, is the gold standard of vintage style leathers, and really lives up to its heritage. The other option is a more of a golden tan oil tanned cowhide which features a dramatic, vintage look as well, but it is far less waxy and more matte.
The card sleeve holds about 5-8 cards and will stretch out with use.
Next up is our two slot options, and there are two of em. Call it then vs. now, old vs. new, rustic vs. refined. We will start with the Kraft wallet. This is a throw back to what I think of as old-school "leathercraft," one piece of leather folded and stitched to achieve a simple yet useful design. Each pocket has an angled top to allow easy access to cards. Can fit 5-10 cards, but may be a tight fit at first. Great for those who want to take a few cards and stuff a folded wad of cash in the front pocket. Edges are left rough, and will burnish from going in and out of your pocket. Made of either Brown Horween Chromexcel, or our Golden Brown Oil Tan.
Now we get to the "refined" side of the two slot card holders. This is my personal favorite and really is a great design. Made of thinner vegetable tanned leather, and perfectly rounded, this is a slick and classy way to hold your cards. Easily fits in the front or back pocket, and can hold a surprising amount after some break in. I have carried up to 8 cards plus folded cash in one of these. I call this one the Super Simple Wallet. Available in the shop in a bunch of different leathers right now. The standard colors offered will be Brown and Tan English Bridle, and natural veg-tan, all from Wickett and Craig tannery in the USA. These are some of my favorite leathers of all time, truly a "craft" leather, with an impeccable amount of care taken in the tanning and finishing process.
I currently have this wallet available in a ton of leathers, from Horween Shrunken Bison and Essex, to hand dyed vegetable tanned Goatskin.
